Ryan was a fan favourite during his playing days with the London Knights of the OHL. After three seasons with the Knights, Martinelli would go on to play for the University Of Western Ontario's Men's Hockey Team. For the 2010-11 campaign, Ryan chose to go to Europe and be a member of the Valpellice squad in Italy.
