Mair began his career with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where he would play only one year before joining the Los Angeles Kings. This time, Mair would spend 2 years with the Kings, but he would be traded to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for Erik Rasmussen. Mair played for Buffalo from 2002 to 2010 before being placed on waivers by the team and eventually becoming an unrestricted free agent.
