Chara began his career out in Long Island with the New York Islanders after being drafted by the club in 1996. Zdeno would play 4 years in New York before being traded to the Ottawa Senators at the 2001 National Hockey League Entry Draft. He would spend another 4 years with the Senators this time, but in the offseason of 2006, Chara signed a five year deal with the Boston Bruins where he was names the hockey club's captain.
