Joe was the first overall selection in the 1997 National Hockey League Entry Draft by the Boston Bruins after an amazing year with the Ontario Hockey League's, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. After 8 years with the Bruins, Thornton was traded in a blockbuster deal to the San Jose Sharks. In his years with the Sharks, Thornton has been named to the All-Star Team three times.
