Phil was drafted by the San Jose Sharks in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round, one hundred fourty seventh overall.

Marie Greyhounds. After 8 years with the Bruins, Thornton was traded in a blockbuster deal to the San Jose Sharks. In his years with the Sharks, Thornton has been named to the All-Star Team three times.
